Pronoun adalah salah satu komponen part of speech yang sangat penting. Kalau di pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia, sering disebut sebagai kata ganti orang.

Meski gampang dipelajari, banyak lho yang masih melakukan kesalahan dalam penyusunannya. Jadi perhatikan topik diskusi ini baik-baik, ya!
Subject Pronoun
Subject pronoun adalah pronoun yang memiliki posisi sebagai subyek dalam kalimat. Ingat susunan kalimat SPOK?
Subject pronoun merupakan pronoun yang bertugas sebagai pelaku dalam sebuah kalimat. Dalam bahasa Inggris, ada setidaknya tujuh subject pronoun yang bisa digunakan untuk menyusun kalimat sempurna.
Mereka adalah I, you, we, they, he, she, it/this/that/those/these.
Berikut ini adalah contoh-contoh kalimatnya.

Meski subject pronoun merupakan materi paling dasar dalam bahasa Inggris, tapi banyak yang melakukan kesalahan dalam penggunaannya.
Misalnya dalam kalimat “You and me are meant to be together.”
Ini merupakan frasa yang salah karena “me” adalah object pronoun. Sementara dalam kalimat tersebut “you” dan “me” sama-sama bertidak sebagai pelaku.
Jadi kalimat yang benar adalah “You and I are meant to be together”
Object Pronoun
Kebalikan dari subject pronoun, object pronoun bertugas sebagai korban terlaku dalam sebuah kalimat. Untuk “you” dan kata ganti benda tidak ada perubahan bentuk dari subject pronoun-nya. Jadi object pronoun yang mengalami perubahan dari subyeknya adalah me, us, them, him, dan her.

Possesive Adjective Pronoun
Possesive adjective pronoun adalah kata ganti orang yang menunjukkan kepemilikan dari sesuatu. Biasanya bentuk pronoun seperti ini diikuti dengan noun milik orang yang bersangkutan
Possesive adjective pronoun terdiri dari: my, your, her, his, its, our, dan their.

Possesive Pronoun
Sama seperti possessive adjective pronoun, possesive pronoun adalah kata ganti orang yang menunjukkan kepemilikan terhadap sesuatu. Bedanya, possesive pronoun didahului oleh noun yang dimiliki.
Selain itu, juga bisa juga digunakan untuk menghindari pengulangan dari dua noun.
Misalnya, “Your car is parked right beside theirs.”
Sebenarnya kalimat tersebut juga bisa berbunyi, “Your car is parked right beside their cars.”
Possesive pronoun terdiri dari: mine, yours, hers, his, ours, dan theirs.

Reflexive Pronoun
Reflexive pronoun adalah kata ganti orang yang digunakan untuk merujuk sesuatu ke diri sendiri.
Pronoun jenis ini yang tunggal terdiri dari myself, yourself, herself, himself, dan itself
Sementara itu yang jamak terdiri dari yourselves, ourselves, dan themselves.
