Get Along

Get along dalam bahasa Inggris memiliki arti yang sangat berbeda dengan “get” atau pun “along”. Phrasal verb satu ini memiliki arti: berkomunikasi/berinteraksi dengan baik/berteman.

  • Do you know why I can’t get along with Chloe?

Get Over

Get over menurut Cambridge Dictionary berarti “pulih dari rasa sakit atau patah hati”. Atau gampangnya kids zaman now menyebutnya “move on”.

  • Getting over you is harder than what I thought at first

Get Rid of

Get rid of adalah salah satu dari sedikit phrasal verb yang tersusun dari tiga kata sekaligus. Menurut Cambridge Dictionary, get rid of memiliki arti “menyingkirkan sesuatu/seseorang karena tidak menyukainya”.

Get At

Get at dalam bahasa Inggris cukup banyak arti, mulai dari 1) mendapat akses/masuk, 2) paham/mengerti, 3) terhasut, dan terakhir 4) menghubungi seseorang.

Example:

  • Sorry to interrupt you, Sir, but I can’t get at my student account
  • She got at Cambridge University when she was still 14 years old
  • If we seek the truth, we need to get at the root of the problem
  • What are you getting at? Why do you sneak into my house?
  • Please get at me when you finish calling Tim

Get Away

Selain get off, get away juga bisa jadi pengganti dari “go”, lho! Selain untuk menggantikan kata “go”, get away juga bisa digunakan untuk menyuruh orang lain menjauh. Atau menjelaskan suatu benda yang bergerak menjauh dari suatu titik.

Example:

  • Get away from my side now!
  • She almost caught a beautiful parrot, but then it got away
  • Let’s getaway to Balekambang beach this weekend
  • Get away from the mirror, please, it’s so fragile!
  • The train always get away on time from this station

Get Used To

Get used to adalah phrasal  verb tiga kata yang memiliki arti “terbiasa”. Jangan sampai tertukar dengan used to lho, karena artinya cukup berbeda.

Example:

  • I’m learning to get used to the problem I face
  • She’s gotten used to studying anything autodidact
  • You need to get used to him since he is your real brother
  • I don’t get used to having a dog as a pet, I was more into cats
  • Get used to something is not as easy as you think

Get It Together

Get it together memiliki arti “mempersiapkan segala sesuatu yang dibutuhkan”. Selain itu, get it together juga bisa diartikan sebagai “menyatukan semuanya untuk diambil kesimpulannya”.

Example:

  • You need to get it together before going to the summer camp
  • Please clean all stuff in your room and get it together tidily
  • Can’t you just get it together in a suitcase?
  • Sorry, I can’t get it together in my mind
